Fresh breath is what we all want.
Most of us worry about our breath, popping breath mints or squirting
our mouths periodically with breath spray to mask an odor that we
fear may be there. Now there is finally a better understanding of
the gaseous compounds that are responsible for the problem, how
they are produced and how they can be chemically eliminated, not
just for an hour or two, but for all day, every day.
Furthermore, we are finding that
oral health and even general health is linked to this same group
of compounds that are so objectionable in our breath. What we have
been calling bad breath is really a group of compounds known as
volatile sulphur compounds (VSCs).
It has been shown that these same
volatile sulphur compounds are the facilitators that help damaging
bacteria penetrate the epithelium (skin inside your mouth) and attack
the tissue that connects tooth to bone and eventually attack the
bone itself. Along the way, inflamed and bleeding gums plus deepening
periodontal pockets are created.
There is now a way to get rid of
volatile sulphur compounds. It is found in the CloSYSII Oral Health
System, developed by a leading periodontist, comprised of a toothpaste
and oral rinse which, when used together twice a day, chemically
eliminate volatile sulphur compounds, leaving the mouth fresh and
clean all day, every day.

| CloSYSII®
Oral Rinse: For the Breath of Confidence™
CloSYSII
Oral Rinse (formerly RetarDEX® Oral Rinse) provides coverage
of the oral cavity after brushing. Unlike traditional mouthwashes,
pH balanced
CloSYSII
Oral Rinse does not rely on an added flavor to cover bad breath.
The CloSYSII ingredient actually eliminates the compounds that cause
odor at its source, not only on the teeth but throughout the mouth.
Over-the-counter mouthwashes cannot achieve these results.
Unflavored
CloSYSII Oral Rinse can be used as is, directly from the bottle.
Try it yourself. However, if you find that you or your patients
prefer a flavored oral rinse, or the addition of a minty scent to
their breath, you may choose to add the accompanying mint flavor
according to package instructions.
If
you are conducting comparative breath evaluations, use the unflavored
product as the flavoring can mask any results or cause a confusing
reading on any breath measurement instruments.

|
| Reduction
of VSCs Using CloSYSII Oral Rinse (formerly RetarDEX Oral Rinse):
Independent laboratory testing using the Halimeter
(portable sulfide monitor, Interscan Corporation, Chatsworth, CA):
Measurements are shown in parts per billion
Morning breath, upon arising without eating or drinking - measurement
= about 160 ppb - 100%
15 seconds after rinsing with CloSYSII Oral Rinse (unflavored) -
measurement = 62 ppb or a 60% reduction
5 hours post rinse - measurement = 22 ppb or an 85% reduction in
VSCs (without eating or drinking)
Use and recommend CloSYSII Oral Rinse as a breath freshener, and
also as an aid to improve oral health, both in your office and for
at-home use. It contains no alcohol, does not stain the teeth, is
safe for use as a pre- and post-procedural rinse and is especially
effective as an in-office and at-home subgingival irrigant (unflavored)
to reduce tissue tenderness and to deep clean difficult areas.
CloSYSII
Oral Rinse:
Patented chlorine dioxide system
Alcohol free
pH balanced
Offered in an unflavored form
Needs no flavoring agents to make the product work
In its unflavored form it serves as a great subgingival irrigant,
pre & post procedural rinse, can be used in a water delivery
system at home or through ultrasonic/peizo scalers and as part of
debridement procedures.
Non-staining
Leaves no residual after taste
Has a mint flavor option
From Lynch, et al, LHMC, UK, Journal of Dental Research, Volume
74, No.3, 1995:
Hydrogen sulfide and methyl mercaptan are the volatile
sulfur compounds responsible for oral malodor.
CloSYSII® oral rinse (formerly RetarDEX® oral rinse) oxidatively
consumes cysteine and methionine, amino acid precursors from the
cell walls that produce hydrogen sulfide and methyl mercaptan.

|
| Both
RetarDEX® oral rinse and RetarDENT® toothpaste are highly
advanced, internationally researched oral care products which have
been specifically formulated and developed by dental professionals
to help ensure that you have the freshest possible breath and a healthy
mouth. Both products are recommended by dentists and specialist 'Fresh
Breath' clinics.
RetarDEX oral rinse is pH balanced to protect your teeth and not
upset the delicate equilibrium in the mouth.
RetarDEX oral rinse does not contain any alcohol. Alcohol in mouth
washes can produce 'alcohol breath' and has been associated with
oral health problems with prolonged use
RetarDEX oral rinse is unflavoured but comes with a separate vial
of natural peppermint oil. This provides you with the option of
either flavoured or unflavoured oral rinse.
RetarDENT toothpaste, with its special silica polishers, is low
in abrasion and polishes the tooth's surface.
RetarDENT toothpaste is non-foaming which means that you are not
encouraged to stop cleaning your teeth too soon. It does not contain
sodium lauryl sulphate, the foaming detergent that has been associated
with mouth ulcers.
RetarDENT toothpaste does not contain any animal by-products.
RetarDENT toothpaste has an invigorating, minty taste that will
leave your mouth feeling fresh and clean.

| How
RetarDEX toothpaste and RetarDEX oral rinse work to eliminate bad
breath compounds |
|
In
even the cleanest month, odour-causing molecules known as volatile
sulphur compounds (VSCs) are constantly being produced by the natural
breakdown of bacteria and human cells. |
|
Ordinary
toothpastes and mouthwashes only cover up these compounds with a more
pleasant smell or flavour for a few minutes. The VSCs are still there,
causing odour in the mouth. |
|
However,
the CloSYS II ingredient in RetarDENT toothpaste and RetarDEX oral
rinse actually breaks the molecular bonds to destroy the odour-causing
VSCs. |
|
With
regular use, RetarDENT toothpaste and RetarDEX oral rinse can assure
you of cleaner teeth, a healthier mouth and the freshest breath possible. |
|
CloSYS
Il® |
| RetarDEX®
oral rinse and RetarDENT® toothpaste have as their active formulation,
the CloSYS II ingredient which is a safe and effective dental germicide
for everyday use.
CloSYS II ingredient has been clinically proven eliminate on contact,
not mask, Volatile Sulphur Compounds (VSCs) that cause bad breath
(See picture explanation) - and to carry on working
CloSYS II ingredient in RetarDEX oral rinse and RetarDENT toothpaste
has been developed to fight plaque, which research shows is a cause
of gum problems and tooth decay. Use RetarDEX oral rinse and RetarDENT
toothpaste, as part of an oral hygiene programme, to keep your mouth
healthy and clean.
The cleansing action of RetarDEX oral rinse and RetarDENT toothpaste
gradually removes, gently and effectively, organic staining on teeth
caused by food and drink such as coffee, tea, red wine, etc resulting
in a whiter appearance for your teeth.
SUGGESTIONS
FOR USE
Place a small amount
of RetarDENT toothpaste on a toothbrush. Preferably you should use
a toothbrush that has been softened with warm water.
Brush your teeth and
gums for 3 minutes. For thorough cleanliness you should include
the tongue, roof of the mouth and sides of the cheeks.
Leave the toothpaste
in your mouth and clean between your teeth with floss, interdental
brushes or interdental sticks. For additional effectiveness place
some RetarDENT toothpaste on whichever you use.
Rinse your month with
RetarDEX oral rinse for 30 seconds swishing the liquid back and
forth between the teeth.
Gargle for 90 seconds
with a fresh solution of RetarDEX oral rinse.
Brush your teeth with
RetarDENT toothpaste and rinse with RetarDEX oral rinse at least
twice a day, preferably three times a day, after each meal.
Do not rinse with water.
Let the oral rinse stay in your mouth to continue its cleansing
action and keep your breath fresh.
ADDITIONAL USES
Toothbrushes can become
contaminated with bacteria whilst not in use. This can potentially
occur, for example, when a number of toothbrushes are kept together
in the same holder without headguards. A thorough rinsing in RetarDEX
oral rinse may freshen your brush prior to cleaning your teeth.
Users of orthodontic
braces can find that rinsing with RetarDEX oral rinse can be an
effective aid in maintaining a healthy mouth as it can reduce harmful
bacteria that may be difficult to reach with normal toothbrushing.
Dentures can be soaked
in RetarDEX oral rinse to eliminate unpleasant odours and they can
be cleaned with RetarDENT toothpaste to reduce staining. RetarDENT
toothpaste can also be placed on the back of the denture plate when
in use.
For some people with
impaired physical capabilities the non-foaming aspect of RetarDENT
toothpaste can make the process of teeth cleaning much easier.
STATEMENTS
RetarDEX oral rinse and
RetarDENT toothpaste should be kept away from clothing as, in some
instances, they can cause discolouring of the fabric.
RetarDEX oral rinse and
RetarDENT toothpaste do not contain fluoride.
RetarDEX oral rinse and
RetarDENT toothpaste are not tested on animals
RetarDEX oral rinse and
RetarDENT toothpaste have been approved by the Vegetarian Society.

Its
On the Tip of Your Tongue
The
latest clinical research has discovered that bacteria on the surface
of the tongue is the major cause of bad breath. This is also the
bacteria that can cause gum disease. Ninety percent of bad breath
is the result of sulfur gases produced as bacteria digest proteins
in the mouth. This is the same bacteria that can lead to periodontal
disease. The majority of this bacteria, and the debris it feeds
upon, was found to be located on the surface of the tongue.
The
tongue's irregular surface has numerous crevices where bacteria
can hide. Removing bacteria and the proteins it feeds upon from
the surface of the tongue has proven to significantly reduce bad
breath. Decreasing the concentration of this bacteria in the mouth
reduces the chances of gum disease.
Dentists
and hygienists recommend tongue brushing as an essential component
of fresh breath maintenance, and as part of a complete program of
optimal oral hygiene including:
Brushing
thoroughly twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. (Choose a soft-bristled
toothbrush and replace it every 3-4 months.)
Carefully cleaning between teeth with floss or other interdental
cleaners to remove plaque.
Eating a balanced diet for good general health.
Scheduling regular dental checkups.

Periodontology Conventional Toothbrushes Tung•Brush®
Why
conventional tongue cleaners don't work:
Toothbrush
Tung•Brush®

Toothbrushes
The long, soft bristles of a toothbrush over-flex, preventing the
bristle tips from penetrating the crevices of the tongue and removing
the maximum amount of bacteria and debris.
The narrow width of a toothbrush makes it difficult to quickly and
effectively clean the broad surface of the tongue.
The narrow width and high profile of a toothbrush is likely to trigger
a gag reflex when used to clean the back of the tongue.
Tongue
Scrapers
A
scraper is a hard-plastic ridged product that only removes a superficial
layer of bacteria from the tongue.
The stiffness of the scraper blade does not allow it to penetrate
the sandpaper-like texture of the tongue where bacteria hide.
Additionally, the tongue's natural reflex is to curl inward; when
this happens, a scraper can only reach the sides of the tongue.
For most people, the thought of scraping the tongue is offensive
and messy.

| Tung-Brush
stops bad breath where it starts

Research
has shown that bacteria on the tongue-not foods like onions and
garlic-causes 90 percent of the bad breath Americans spend millions
of dollars trying to cover up each year. Based on this research,
Dr. Steven Wieder developed Dr. Wieder's Original Tung-Brush and
Tung-Gel.
The
Tung-Brush is modeled after a toothbrush, but has a flat, round
head with short, firm bristles. The brush is used with the Tung-Gel
to scrub away bacteria. This removes the bacteria at the source
rather than covering it up with mints or gum.
Dr.
Wieder recommends using the specialized brush and gel daily after
brushing or more often if desired. The Tung-Brush and Tung-Gel currently
are available at pharmacies and other stores.
